I am a registered physical therapist specializing in pediatric care since 1976. My experience includes rehabilitation, acute care, and home care. My passion is to assist people who have functional limitations and skill level differences to realize their potential, to embrace the concept of health and wellness for themselves, and to learn how to access community resources to reach these goals. I believe in close collaboration with other caregivers (therapists, school, physicians, chiropractors, and others).
Over the past year I have been working on my manual skills and my interventions for low back, hip, leg, foot, and ankle have been quite successful in resolving pain and often increasing both the activity and skill level in affected children. It is surprising how many children have chronic pain that can be effectively treated with simple manual therapy, how much this pain affects their lives, and how few options there are for treatment. Following treatment, parents are reporting increased activity levels, increased willingness to try new skills, improved sleep, improved running ability and speed, a decrease in toe-walking, and improved self-esteem. The joint mobilization I perform is done in the resting position with the child in full control; it is gentle and well tolerated. Treatment frequency can range from one to two treatments total to once per week for 3 to 6 months depending on severity and on how long the mechanical dysfunction has been present. Treatment time is from 10 to 30 minutes. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more detail or to discuss the appropriateness of this approach for a specific case.
